Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K Rowling
My parents recently gave me all the Harry Potter books so I decided to reread them. It’s been quite a while since I read them so I started (where most people start) at the beginning.
This book is mostly about Harry Potter learning that’s he’s a wizard and getting acquainted with Hogwarts. There is also a plot all about the sorcerer’s stone but that is almost secondary in this book. I always liked this book because of how much the Dursleys (the people Harry are raised with) are present in it. I know we are supposed to hate them but part of me is very fascinated by them. A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K LeGuin
I heard about this book because the author recently died and apparently lots of people liked her books and I had never read any of them. I decided to go with the ya fantasy series since that seemed a bit more up my alley than some of her other works.
This book is about a boy with magical powers who accidentally creates a major problem and then has to fix it. It’s very much the first book in a series with a lot of character development and not a ton of plot. It’s also written in a very interesting style without a lot of dialogue and to some extend it does feel like epic fantasy. At times I definitely forgot that the characters were supposed to be young. The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima
This is a YA fantasy story set in real life. The premise of the story is that Jack thinks he is a normal boy and then learns that there is a magical community all around him that wants to use him and/or kill him.
Although I did end up enjoying this story, I found it very hard to get into it. I just didn’t care about the characters or the situation but I’m glad I persisted. Continue reading “(36) The Warrior Heir // Bookish Blurb”
The Magic of Oz by L Frank Baum
In the latest of the Oz books that I’ve read the people of Oz are trying to figure out what to give Ozma for her birthday while the evil Nome king tries to take over Oz once again. Continue reading “(22) The Magic of Oz // Bookish Blurb”
