The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima
This is a YA fantasy story set in real life. The premise of the story is that Jack thinks he is a normal boy and then learns that there is a magical community all around him that wants to use him and/or kill him.

The Tin Woodman of Oz by L Frank Baum
This is actually the 12th book in the original Oz series. Most people don’t seem to be aware that it is a series at all but it is. I’m slowly working my way through all the books (I read the first 11 last year) which shouldn’t be very hard since they are all quite short and easy to read.
This book concerns the Tin Woodman and is essentially a quest to find the girl he loved before he was made into tin. Along the way we meet many new characters and they go on funny little adventures. As in most of the oz books, the majority of the book is them wandering around meeting odd people/creatures and getting in and out of danger.
