Something Rotten by Jasper Fforde
This is the fourth and final book in the original Thursday Next series. See my review of the first book here. This book takes place two years after the last one and Thursday has decided to leave the book world and return to the ‘real’ world and try and get her husband back while (as always) stopping the world from destruction.
Although I enjoyed this book and there were moments where I actually did laugh out loud, I kinda just wanted it to end. I think I just didn’t feel as invested with the characters or something. Also it felt like there were almost too many ‘oh, actually it’s this!’ moments if that makes any sense. It’a a very random series overall but I felt like this book in particular made less sense.
I was excited to meet her son and see how that would work but ultimately I was very disappointed in the way that was presented. I know he’s a little kid but she was basically a perfect mother and he never really caused a change or anything to the situation. Like, it doesn’t really matter that he’s there or not. Which I don’t think is what it’s like when you have two year old.
I’m trying to think of something else to say about this… Idk, I was a bit disappoint but still really enjoyed the fact that it was clean adult funny literary book.
