(54) The Grace Keepers // Bookish Blurb

The Grace Keepers by Kirsty Logan

I forget where I got the recommendation for this book and I remember almost not getting it but I am so glad that I did. This book follows the lives of two very different women in a world where the earth is almost entirely covered in water. Callanish is a gracekeeper who lives alone with the dead to keep her secret safe and herself alive. North is part of a traveling circus and performs with her bear for a living. These two women live very different lives yet they are brought together by fate, chance, and the need to belong in a world that won’t accept them. Another University Walk // Scotland

CIMG4948x
I’m assuming I meant to take a picture of the sheep but I actually quite like how this picture turned out.

While I was in Scotland I look a number of random walks around campus and took pictures. Yes, Scotland has the reputation of being very grey and gloomy but it also has a number of gorgeous days with blue skies like this one. This is the walk where I ended up taking a bunch of pictures of the different birds I found but I think the birds will get their own post.  Continue reading “Another University Walk // Scotland”

Hyde Park

CIMG6393aWhen my parents came and visited me at the end of my Scotland trip we ended up in London for a few days since I wanted to spend a little time there and also our flights left from there. One  of the things we did while we were in London was walk through Hyde park. I really don’t know much about Hyde park but it’s a famous beautiful park in London and here are some pictures from it. (52) Frozen Tides // Bookish Blurb

Frozen Tides by Morgan Rhodes

This is book 4 in the Falling Kingdom series. See my reviews for books one, two, and three. This book doesn’t really do any recap so you kind of have to have read the other books to understand what is going on. In this book we follow Lucia as she teams up with a venge seeking fire god, Jonas, who continues to be manipulated and fail at what he does, and Magnus and Cleo as they fight over the kindred and their hearts. (51) The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage // Bookish Blurb

The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage: the (Mostly) True Story of the First Computer by Sydney Padua

The title of this book basically tells you everything you need to know. This is a graphic novel about Lovelace and Babbage and the first computer. It is a book chock full of facts (both real and somewhat less real). If smart people, steampunk, or computers interest you then you should look into this book. (50) Tom’s Midnight Garden // Bookish Blurb

Tom’s Midnight Garden by Philippa Pearce

This was another book I read because it was recommended at the back of the The Little Paris Bookshop. Basically this is an old children’s book originally published in 1958. The premise of this book is that Tom is sent to stay with his aunt and uncle because his brother is sick. While there, Tom discovers another world he can visit at midnight. (49) The Twentieth Wife // Bookish Blurb

The Twentieth Wife by Indu Sundaresan

How to describe this book? This is a historical fiction book based off of reality and many Indian legends. It is basically an epic love story following the life of Mehrunnisa as she is born and falls in love with Prince Salim while her life takes her far from him. It is a story of duty and death, intrigue and war, and the idea that love will ultimately prevail. Also it is the story of how a woman gained incredible power at a time where women were not allowed any. Continue reading “(49) The Twentieth Wife // Bookish Blurb”
